Farm Town Tips

FarmTown

If you are just starting out go for the cash crops to earn more coins. Hire others to harvest for you, you make more by doing so and you may get hired in return earning more coins. At first the best crops were potato, rice and sun flowers. It seems that may have changed with the new crops, cabbage, peas and onions. Grapes can be planted every 4 hours bringing in some quick coinage and experience points but with a lot of effort in plowing and planting. Tight cropping will maximize the use of your land space, you can use one of the methods below or just uncheck the crop spacing in your preferences.(the safest method)
Changing some of your preferences (the wrench icon on the mini toolbar, see the image below) can help in many ways. You can uncheck display trees to get to hidden fields, find lost animals and items, re-arrange things on the farm, or do an inventory. You can also show/hide buildings and flowers. Freeze the animals, good for moving fencing around. Uncheck follow avatar while walking (an annoying thing sometimes), and smooth graphics. Unchecking the smooth graphics may help speed the game up for some people.
Notice the Disk Icon on the mini toolbar. While plowing and planting keep an eye on this, if it stays blue for an extended period of time click on it to force a save. This seems to cut down on the XLink save errors and farm reloads while working. I also plow, plant, and re-arrange my farm in offline mode. If the plow tool starts acting up like sliding under fields or jumping around, click on the walk icon to drop it and re-select it. This seems to reset the tool.

When someone hires you try to add them to your buddy list. That way if you are disconnected for some reason you can click on your buddy list to return to their farm.
"Double Click My Feet and I Will Hire You" Don't fall for this, you will hire them to work on your farm and there is nothing you can do about it. Single click an Avatar's feet and the menu will pop up with your pointer on the option to hire them. Double clicking the feet automatically chooses that opton.
Mass hiring and sending players to a farm with nothing to harvest. This is done to clear the room of competetion. The devs have put a fix in to stop this but there are ways to get around the fix. There is nothing you can do about it and odds are you will not return to the same room as before. You can leave a message but most likely it will be laughed at. Telling people about the farmer and farm name doesn't help since they can be changed quickly.

Create Farm Cash

How to build Farm Cash for your Items:

A lot of us struggle with Farm Cash and finding ways to afford the expensive items for our farms is becoming more of a test all the time, especially as they seem to be getting more expensive with each new addition!
Here is a possible solution to the problem. It is not essentially against the TOS of facebook, as long as you use your head.

The object of this How-to is to help you to create Farm Cash for those items you can't afford on your main account. There's no sensible way to increase your own FC without new levels being introduced or digging into your wallet and spending real dollars to buy them, so what I do is Gift the Items from a Secondary Account.

How do we achieve this?

Firstly, you need a second or alternate account on Facebook. TOS states that you can only have one personal account with them, so you need to set it up using a family member's name and email address. I have 6 children, so I didn't have a problem!

Ok, you now have the alternate account set up with facebook, so invite them to play Farm Town! I'm sure your son or daughter would love to play!

The farm is up and you go through the wonderful introductory help to get to your new farm. It has a few coins and some crops ready to harvest, and don't forget the Mayors gift!

This is where we start to play crafty. Don't do anything on the farm, except harvest those crops for the coins! Now, head straight for the Market Place and get some more coins under your belt, and the first few levels out of the way. they go very quickly, and one good plow-hire will usually set you up to level 7 straight away.
The goal here is to reach level 25 and full size on the farm. This can take an hour or a day, depending on how much work you can get, or if you play like I do, you work your main account's farm to get this underway. Make the most of the double coins for fertilized crops too.

If you really want to get started on the farm, plant a short-term crop for points while you work to expand and build coins. Also, go to the gift links and download trees by the hundred! Pick the 2 day harvest trees, they hold a good market value for crops and are a fast turn-around, as well as free!

As you expand the farm up to full size, add more trees and plow under them, wall to wall. Remember the target here isn't to make the farm look nice, isn't to make it beautiful, it's to make FC, so don't spend one cent on anything other than crops and plowing! Every coin will count later on.

Usually, within a day you will have reached the first goal, full sized farm and cash to spare. Now comes the real planning stage. We need coins, not points here. Here we have two options, and you can use either or both if you are able to. Due to the un-reliability of the Tab Harvesting, I have detailed a second option for raising coins.

Option 1: Tab Harvesting

Start by layering the farm with one, two, three and four day crops. 4 layers will suffice, but 8 will make sure! If you can't get enough coins from this first plant, you may repeat it again.
Choose your crops carefully, I would recommend using Mint for one day, Rice for two day, Coffee for three day and pumpkins for 4 day. Why those crops? Because they hold the highest coins return at the level you are now!

You may have hit another level or two by the time you're planted up, but that's ok. Here we go into the final stage of the plan:

Let the one day crop ripen. When it's ready, then it's time to harvest, but we are going to do it differently this time. Open as many tabs as your pc can handle. For harvesting, ten tabs is brilliant, but if you can't get ten, then go as far as you can. You can even use several computers here to open more tabs! I know of one person that reportedly used 7 laptops for harvesting this way! Beg or borrow if you need to.
Ok, you have all the tabs open now and are ready to get going. But how?
The first tab you set to harvest to store. this puts crops into the store for sale later on. ALL the other tabs are set to Harvest for Coins! Divide the farm into 4 quarters, using either a count of fields, (16 x 16 if you have planted wall to wall) or some other method that you devise.

Start to harvest. Pick one quarter only and harvest that same quarter on all the tabs. The reason for doing it this way is simple. There is a cut-off built into the game that only allows you to repeat harvest a portion of your farm. Once you exceed this number, (around 250 - 300 IME) then you get nothing from the extra tabs. So harvest the farm one quarter at a time, resetting all the tabs after completion of each quarter. 4 runs and the one day crop has been harvested, the coins went up substancially and you have stock in the store! If you went ahead and planted more than 4 layers, then you may have a second harvest to do too!

Day two is a repeat of the process all over again, as is day 3 and 4. By the end of day 4, if you managed to run 10 tabs per harvest, you will have realised a huge stock of coins, and still be on level 25-27.
Now comes the fun part! when the final harvest is in, delete the fields so you have a clear farm. Oh, by the way, don't forget you should have also been harvesting the trees too! Sell your crops and empty the store, it all counts.

Option 2: Facilities Working

If you have good friends that play the game, this is a very viable alternative to the tab harvesting. Get as many farmer friends as you can to accept your friend request. They do not need to become neighbours. Then just watch your wall and answer every facilities request! Work all their facilities and then sell the produce at the market. This will bring in very good returns in quite a short space of time if your friends have good facilities! (Thank you Marcia for the suggestion!)
Ok, your coins target here is 50 million coins. It may sound a lot, but it's not very difficult to reach it using either or both methods. Read on!

You have a wonderful empty farm now, so lets fill it up...... with something from the store! The small items, like hay bales are great, buy one, then repeat with the multi-buy, when the farm is full, delete with the dozer and choose the option not to keep asking! In theory 10 million coins will be ample to get you to level 115 in comfort, but using small items like this it takes a while to get there! You get 5 points per bale at a cost of 50 coins per bale, so it's a 10 coins per point ratio as opposed to the more expensive items that return a 100 coins per point ratio. If you did particularly well on the tab harvesting, then the big items will achieve the result much quicker, but otherwise, use the items below 5000 coins, as they can be deleted without any problems.

It takes time to fill and empty the farm with items, but it all counts towards the end result, Farm Cash! The larger items cost more but build faster, the smaller items take much longer to reach the target, but save a lot of coins. How you go about spending all the money you accrued is up to you, but watch the coins as they shoot in a downwards direction! If you fall short of the target, then repeat the layering and run the harvesting again, but in any event, the whole procedure shouldn't take more than a week to complete to level 115! That will realise at least 120 FC, enough to gift 3 or 4 FC items to your main account.

Fields Under Trees

This problem has confused and confounded many players for a long time, but here's the easy way to do it.

Clear the harvested fields from the farm so that you are back to green area. Plant trees, either gifted ones or purchase apple/orange trees for the purpose. If you are short of coins, visit our Gift Links site, and grab as many trees as you need. Plant them where you want them. You can either plant them with one row between each line or tight together, depending on how you intend to harvest them. Depending on the tree you use, you will have a crop every 2 – 5 days.

The harvests are at no further cost to you, and it's money all the way! If you get the trees from gifts, then they even come to you free. Not a bad way to earn extra coins! But, you can't plant anything now, the trees are covering the area! Now you need some help from my box of tricks!

Hide the trees using the wrench tool. Refresh the game with the Play. Take the plow and plow one field somewhere on the farm, away from the trees you just planted. If you already have plowed or harvested fields elswhere on the farm, you can skip this step. Now take the delete tool and delete that field you just plowed or a plowed or harvested field somewhere on the farm! Why do this? It unlocks the plow! Now take the plow up again and start plowing. All of a sudden, the plow works everywhere! You can plow fields anywhere on the farm now, not just over the trees you planted, but over anything that's hidden when you refresh. Turn the trees back on, they are all over the plowed fields. To plant, harvest or plow in future, just hide the trees and refresh.

The process is exactly the same for flowers. Hide the trees first and refresh, plow and delete as before, but rather than take the plow up again, start planting flowers. Once again, these can be found on the gift links sites, or by friends gifting them to you, so you don't always have to buy them. All flowers take 4 days to mature, and can be harvested every 4 days. They hold a reasonable price at the market too. When you finish the flowers, just hide them, refresh and plow delete again, then plow away, over both trees and flowers! The farm has now increased it's yield and income very easily, and with minimal cost.

Beach Making

1.First, take pieces of a dirt in one direction. Create another right next to this in a parallel fashion. Repeat until you have what looks like a sandy beach.

2.Place some coconut trees, palm trees, and banana trees on this new sand

3.Plow some land next to the dirt paths, once you are done making your sand. This image shows a similar technique with a hill added in.

Waterfalls Making

This will explain just how to create stunning water effects such as waterfalls and lakes, wide rivers and also how to create bridges over water.

Start with a nice clear area. There should be nothing on the area, including trees or flowers that may be hidden. It's always worth checking first, otherwise it can look very strange when you turn everything on afterwards!
What you will need:
  1. The river sections!
  2. About a dozen dirt path sections or stone paths
  3. Time!
Start by placing the first section. In this demonstration I am building a waterfall, so I start with the top river corner.

Next, take the dirt path sections and lay them over the river section like this:

Get your next river section ready

Lay it over the first one, stepping it down slightly:

Remove the dirt paths:

Voila! The start of a waterfall! Now carry on, repeating the operation until you have an effective feature!

You can vary this method to create all sorts of features simply by how and where you position the path sections. It doesn't just work on rivers, but almost any item in the store! In this simple howto, I only used 4 dirt path sections, and they are not placed close together, but on other effects you may need a lot more, depending on the complexity of it.

Still confused? Just watch the video below, so you can know how to make it.

Adding More Animals in Shed or Coop

Adding more than 100 animals in sheds or coop.

For more than 100 sheep or llamas:

1. you need an empty wool shed
2. lets put 1000 sheep or llamas
3. for 1000 sheep and 1000 llamas in a single wool shed on a single farm you need 2.800.000 coins
4.open your farm in 10 tabs (or more - each tab means 100 animals) and click offline.
5. be sure all tabs is offline
6. on first tab buy 100 sheep and put all sheep in wool shed save and close tab, 2nd tab same, and up to 10th tab.
7. after you finish refresh your game and you have 1000 sheep llamas.

For more than 100 giftable animals (cow, goat, goose, hen, turkey, pig):

1. lets put more than 100 cows (200 cows)
2.go to preferences and mark freeze animals
3. you need to have 80 cows in dairy shed
4. you need to have 80 cows on farm (not in shed) in groups of 20 cows, be sure is 20, make 4 groups
5. you need to have 40 cows on gift (its hard to use more than 40 cows at gifts)
6. after you have all this open your farm in 6 tabs and offline all
7. Go to 1st tab and put 1 group of 20 cows in shed, if you try to add more it show you: "you cannot add more than 100 animals", save and close tab
8. go to 2nd tab and put another group of 20 cows (not group you used on 1st tab) in shed save and close
9. 3rd tab - 3rd group of cows, 4th tab - 4th group of cow
10. you have 2 more tabs to use. 1st tab: - go to gifts and put first 20 cows on farm and add to dairy
11. last tab: put all cows on farm on groups of 20's and 2nd group add to dairy shed save and refresh game you have now 200 cows.

You can try put as many cows as you can in farm and open more tabs and use only 20 or 30 cows on gifts. if you have a good computer and a good connection to the internet you can add up to 400 cows.

Layering Crops

    Here's the method:

    Preparation:

    1. Open your game, harvest the crops and plow.
    2. Go Offline, using the plug symbol on the top tool bar
    3. RIGHT CLICK on Play, and open in new tab (or new window) (I will refer to them as tabs from hereon, since that's the method I use personally)
    4. Go to the new tab (or new window) and take that one offline too
    5. Repeat the process from 3. until you have all the tabs you need, and all are offline. 4 tabs will allow for 4 different crops, 5 will give you 5 crops and so on. The number of tabs you need is dependent on what your pc will do and what you want to plant.

    Planting:

Make sure you have enough coins to cover the full cost of planting all the layers! A rough guide for 500 fields is: for one day crops, allow no less than 100,000 coins, for 2 day, 350,000, 3 day 550,000 and if you want to mix them up, then 700,000 should see you through! This can get considerably larger depending on the number of fields you plant, the types of crops, and the number of layers.
Plant crops in day order, longest time period crop first. This only matters if you are planting multiple days, or raspberries and grapes. For example, if you are planting 1, 2, 3 and 4 day crops, plant them in reverse order. So the order would be pumpkins on the first tab, coffee on the second tab, peas on the third and Cabbage on the last. There is no reason why you can't mix and match the crops on each tab, so long as they all have the same growth time, i.e. cabbage, strawberries, watermelon and potatoes all on the one layer. just take care not to plant different time crops on a tab, as it will affect the crops further down. you don't want a 3 day crop above a one day crop, do you?
Plant the entire area you want to layer on the first tab, then save it. Don't be tempted to swap from one tab to another, the crops will all get mixed up if you do.
Close the tab down and start with the next layer. Keep saving after each tab is finished until you get to the final one, when you save and refresh. If you get the timeout screen, save, don't hit the green tick! (This process can take a while, so it isn't unusual for the tabs to time out before you get round to using them)
Don't worry about the xp and coins counters, they will catch up at the end. If you want to check your points tally, then make a note of the starting xp, then when you refresh after the last layer, note that number too, deduct the one from the other and be amazed!

    Harvesting:

This is simple if you follow the steps below:
    When the first layer is ready for harvest, call in the harvesters! Myspace Users: You now have two choices;
    1. You can plow the harvested layer, but DO NOT PLANT ON IT! Refresh your screen and plow it again! Every time you plow, the xp and coins count will be correct, both for you and the helper, but, you will be charged the rate for plowing, with 10, 15 or 20 coins, depending on the method you use. This is great if you have loads of money, to help your neighbours or buddies to level up, but if you are short of cash, don't do it! You can plow the layer right up until the time for the next crop to be harvested, at which time you go to second choice. This option has now been disabled for Facebook users.
    2. The second choice is simply to remove the harvested fields using the bulldozer. You get green grass when you do this, which can be worrying, but when you finish clearing, just refresh and the next layer becomes visible. you can then go ahead and harvest if it's ready, (if you planted all the same term crops, it would be) or wait for it to ripen to harvest.
Facebook users only have the clear option available.
When you reach the final layer, harvest and plow, ready to replant, then refresh to make sure that all the crops are removed.

    One final note:

There is no guarantee that this will not change in the future. the game is under development and if the developers consider this to be a "glitch" they may well stop it without notice! Do this at your own risk!
It may take a while for you to work out the best plan for you, so try a small area first and see how it works.

    Have fun!

Unlimited Gift

Start by going to the Send Gifts Page and selecting the gift you wish to send. Once selected, click on Proceed to Send.
The next page lists all your friends for you to select from, with tabs for All Friends, Farmer Friends and Facebook Friends List:

friends image

RIGHT CLICK on the Farmer Friends or All Friends and select Open in New Tab. Repeat this as many times as you want gifts to send out to people.
If you are looking to add these gifts to the website Gift Links, follow the next step:
You now have around 20 - 30 tabs open, all of them showing the Friends list to select from! Now click on ONE FRIEND in each tab, (it doesn't have to be the same one all the time), Send Farm Town Gift request, Send, , Skip and Close the tab as soon as the farm starts to load.
If you are just wanting to send out to friends without saving the urls for the gift links, you can select multiple friends in each tab, and you won't need as many tabs open, as the limit for gifts is around 24 per 12 hours.

Congratulations! You have now learned how to Multi-Gift!

f you use FireFox, there is a very handy Addon called Too Many Tabs that I would suggest you install. Using this tool, you can open all the tabs you want to, then save them to the Too Many Tabs as a row, so next time you want to use multi-gifting with the same gift, you simply right click on the tab row and open all tabs! This really does save time!

Too Many Tabs

In Seamonkey, this addon isn't available, but a useful addon here is Right Links. This tool automatically opens a new tab when you right click on a link, so again, is very fast when opening multiple tabs like this.
